The purpose of this course is to update how we see and treat the various layers of communication and distribution embedded within the body, which we call “channels”, by reviewing contemporary research and advances in anatomy. The nervous and cardiovascular systems remain central to qi & blood dynamics. With new scientific understandings of acupuncture points, neuroscience, myofascial chains, and physiology, this course aims to add layers of information onto the persistent and mysteriously accurate wisdom of ancient channel/point locations and functions. The goal is to add new depth to your medical vocabulary and to enhance your practical integrative knowledge of acupuncture in the biomedical context.

- Analyze research correlating point location and organ system effects to understand
effectiveness and clinical value of points versus channels. - Discuss the complicated nature of placebo effect and explore research that demonstrates the
distinction between placebo effects and physiological effects of acupuncture. - Learn how acupuncture channels and effects explain the interrelating and interacting complex
of neuro-immuno-endocrine networks. - Review treatment strategies for various medical conditions (e.g. chronic pain, acute pain,
migraines, headaches, IBS, anxiety/depression, addiction, dysmenorrhea, urinary incontinence,
bowel pain, etc.) in the context of acupuncture neuroscience and the neuro-immuno-endocrine
networks. - Summarize the course material and provide simple clinical insights to improve effectiveness of
acupuncture treatment based in a new understanding of accurate Classical Chinese channel
theory and contemporary research.

“All good teachers recognize that you can’t just do daytime practice, you have to do night-time practice. There’s no daytime practice strong enough to make this unnecessary. This vivid aspect of our experience, night, is too much what we are. So we have to have a relationship with it.” --Liu Ming
This dream series is a complete cycle of teaching broken into in five parts, designed by late Daoist priest Liu Ming. It will present all the profound potentials found in our natural need to sleep. Beginning with the physiological aspects of dream and using dream symbols to interpret medical conditions, then going into an understanding of shamanic dreaming (divination and healing), before finally presenting the spiritual practice of path dreaming, where life and death become dreams.

Beginning with the physiological aspects of dream and using dream symbols to interpret medical conditions, then going into an understanding of shamanic dreaming (divination and healing), before finally presenting the spiritual practice of path dreaming, where life and death become dreams.
- Part 1: Healing - Dream and illness: using dream for healing: In part 1, we will take time to understand the difference between the Western versus Chinese / Daoist cosmology. And from this foundation, learn about the five spirits and the four categories of sleep disorders which can be used to assist in patient diagnosis; can’t fall asleep, can’t stay asleep, no dreaming, and can’t wake up.
- Part 2: Divination - Shamanic dreaming: world of symbols: In part 2, you will be introduced to the world of symbols in shamanic dreaming. We will learn the meaning behind common dream symbols such as travel, traveller and vehicle symbols, animal and plant symbols, and significant places like childhood homes. This weekend will also include teaching about differences between the red and black shaman paths, as well as on the technique of ‘solemnising’ a dream to close off a particular life chapter.
- Part 3: Shamanic - Dream as spiritual path: introduction to path dreaming and types of dreams: In part 3, we learn how dream can be used as a spiritual path, and what the initial, middle and final stages of this may look like. We will explore in more detail the cosmology held by path dreamers; their View, Method and Fruition. And finally, we will discuss the types of dreams that occur at different parts of the night; ordinary dreams in the first part of the night and dreams of clarity (including ancestral resolution dreams) which occur in the middle and last stages of the night.
- Part 4: Path - Path dreaming advanced: intentional and lucid dreams: In part 4, we continue the learning about how to be come a path dreamer. For path dreamers, life and death are a dream rather than a self-created fantasy. Birth, the emergence of an appearance of life, is a dream. Death, the dissolution of the appearance of life, is also a dream. We will learn that though dreamers recognise many types of dreams, the fruition of dreaming is ultimately the dissolution of duality, that is, the artificial boundary between waking and sleeping, and life and death.
- Part 5: Death - Dream as death practice: the five eyes and five 'bardo' transitory states: In part 5, our last weekend will be focused on dream as death practice. You will learn about the cosmology of the five eyes and how it corresponds to the five bardo or transitory states after death.
Early Bird Rate is $790 until 1/9/23 // Regular rate is $990

Healing at Our Edge: Conscious Living, Conscious Dying with Ram Dev Dale Borglum, PhD
Live Webinar Saturday & Sunday November 19-20, 2022 9am-5:30pm PST
15 CA / NCCAOM CEUs CEP #1650 / NCCAOM #9191
Physical healing, emotional healing, spiritual healing, collective healing – the journey to wholeness takes many forms and has as many starting points as there are people who embark upon the journey. Each of us is at a particular point on her or his healing path, confronting our next challenge, often without clearly knowing whether attitudes or practices we have been using to facilitate growth in ourselves or in our clients are becoming stale, without knowing which direction we should now turn to create meaningful transformation.
In this workshop we will draw upon the wisdom of Buddhism, the diagnostic message coming from the connection between stages of early childhood development and energetic patterns in the adult body, as well as the softening and the passion of an open heart. Having explored these wisdom traditions during 30 years of being a guide to the dying, a clear and practical paradigm for the healing path has become apparent to me. Healing occurs through direct contact with the Sacred, through realization of our true nature. There are no shortcuts, but certainly neither taking unnecessary detours nor spending time spinning our wheels can inspire us along what is often a difficult journey to a life consciously lived.
During this workshop we will explore together a clear, concise and usable model of the healing process that can specifically diagnose and identify the next step that is transformational for each of us, even during crisis. Short, intensive, guided meditations and other practices will be presented in order to create a healing experience that will lead to a life consciously and compassionately lived and eventually to a conscious death. We're all caregivers and are all seekers of healing. These deeply uncertain times are an incredible opportunity.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Describe the defining characteristics of compassion.
- Distinguish between compassion and pity.
- Fully understand the somatic foundation for being able to let go of identification with separateness.
- Understanding how to transmute the separateness of grief into the connectedness of compassion.
- Be familiar with several contemplative practices that will help a client transmute fear of dying into acceptance.
- Skillfully work with one’s own fear of death as it is resonated by the client’s situation.
- Enable one’s client to use the prognosis of a life-threatening illness as an opportunity to become more present and alive.

PASSION & COMPASSION: CAREGIVING FOR SELF & OTHERS
PRESENTED BY: ram dev dale borglum, phd

Passion & Compassion: Caregiving for Self & Others with Ram Dev Dale Borglum PhD
*Live Webinar Saturday November 19, 2022 9am-6pm PST*
8 CA / NCCAOM CEUs CEP #1650 / NCCAOM #9191
Compassion, literally with passion, is at the heart of the caregiving process and is the essence of all great religions. Without compassion, contact with suffering will eventually lead to burnout. With compassion, our open heart meets suffering, the suffering within each of us and the suffering that is all around each of us. This movement is the movement from contraction to spaciousness, from judgment to connectedness and requires all of our passion. How alive are you willing to be?
In our culture, compassion for self is mostly ignored and compassion for others is confused with pity. Hence approaching caregiving as one’s spiritual practice, as work on oneself, is not common practice. We don’t have to be Mother Teresa to find joy in working with suffering. There is a joy that goes beyond happiness and sadness, wellness and illness, even beyond life and death. Compassion is our true nature. Life becomes incredibly simple when we experience this truth.
This presentation is intended for those who wish to take better care of themselves, of those they love, of those they work with, for those who wish to prevent burnout, for those who are ill, and for those who wish to transform caregiving into the joy of selfless service.
Guided meditations from the Christian and Buddhist traditions will be explored. Together we will work with self-investigative exercises including communications dyads and exploration of different internal energetic states in relationship to self and to other. We will also learn to recognize and transform our psychological blocks through compassion; to find value and sacredness in the simple, in the immediate, in the difficult; to cultivate compassion for that which blocks our passion, for those parts or ourselves and of others that we fear, reject, or avoid; to hear the message of that which is asking to be heard through our illnesses, our problems, our habits; to enter into symptoms rather than to reflexively try to fix them; to become aware of that which has been hidden to us; to find the Presence that our personality often masks. Finally compassion unlocks our hearts so that we each may live authentically.
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.
If you want to be happy, practice compassion."
–H. H, the Dalai Lama

*Live Webinar Wednesday October 12, 2022 5pm-9pm PDT*
(pending) 4 CA / NCCAOM CEUs CEP #1650 / NCCAOM #9191
Acupuncture treatment is one of the few treatment options for Bell’s Palsy, but few understand the mechanism of action behind the pathology and treatment which can ensure a more committed patient and better treatment outcomes. Bell’s Palsy isn’t just a dysfunction of the physical body and nerves either, for most it’s a huge disruption to life when the patient has lost sight of themselves and their needs through a period of extreme stress. This course will look at not only the biomechanical aspects of Bell’s Palsy, the Chinese medicine treatment options and diagnoses, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects that occur with such a diagnosis. Knowing this information can help your patients heal more thoroughly or even experience a chronic case in a new light.
In this course you will learn:
- Differential Diagnosis for Bell’s Palsy (western and Chinese)
- Overview of anatomy involved
- Red Flags
- Acupuncture specific treatment protocol and multi-needle technique
- A spirit - mind - body approach to facial paralysis
- Supplements and herbal considerations
- Contraindications and healing timeline

Healing the yi - intuitive eating & chinese medicine
PRESENTED BY: DR. KIM PEIRANO, DACM, LAC
8 CEUS CA #1650 / NCCAOM #9191
live webinar sunday 2/27/22
This course focuses on unpacking diet culture, weight stigmatization and unhealthy obsessions with thinness, dieting and even clean eating. We take a deep look into the Yi spirit, learn to listen to it and befriend it as it applies to us along with the other spirits. We will look at the science behind why dieting doesn’t work and why weight is actually not a risk factor for disease or death. We also dip our toe into Intuitive Eating, what that is, what it means and how we can help our patients with putting down dieting for good, and tuning in to what brings them joy, peace and progress. This course helps us to call in our Yi, and begin to work with it and enjoy all that it helps us with, releasing codependency, healing from disordered eating and body image, letting go of circular thinking and finally being able to manifest our ideas into reality.
The Yi spirit is perhaps one of the lesser known or understood of the 5 Spirits, yet it is an integral part of how we exist in the world and manifest our ideas into reality. Without the Yi, we simply don’t accomplish much, we don’t live our uniqueness into the World. We often know the Yi for its association with the Earth element and the Spleen and know that disordered eating can be a big factor in a patient with a Yi disturbance, yet addressing this is a very delicate balance of subtle change with compassionate understanding. The Yi helps us to stand our ground, set boundaries and ask for what we need and accept help when we need it. Modern day diet culture injects a hefty dose of shame into practically everyone’s psyche, particularly those who don’t fit the mold of the ‘perfect figure.’ This rampant disregard for true health and beauty, compulsory and chronic dieting or exercise contributes to an entire society and culture that exhibits some element of Yi disturbance. The Health at Every Size movement aims to de-stigmatize weight and help patients learn to take action on their health while not aiming to lose weight, to truly learn to love ourselves and stand up for what we know is right for us.
$100 Early Bird Rate Ends 2/1/22 - Full Price $125
Objectives:
-Learn and understand the Five Spirits in Chinese Medicine and what they do
-Understand the Yi spirit more deeply - what it does, what a disturbance looks like, what causes it

-Learn what does correlate with poor outcomes that isn’t weight
-Understand other causes for common diseases that are not weight based - PCOS, Heart Disease, Fatty Liver Disease, etc
-Learn about the Health at Every Size movement
-Learn about Intuitive Eating - what it is, what it isn’t
-Learn tangible practices for introducing your patients to intuitive eating, HAES and unpacking diet and weight stigma
For non-Acupuncturists who are energy healers or therapists or Nutritionists - this course is a great option for anyone who has a background in Chinese Medicine theory, the Five Spirits and / or Five Element Theory who is also interested in a new approach to HAES / Intuitive Eating.

Acupuncture alchemy: the elements of emotion
PRESENTED BY: DR. KIM PEIRANO, DACM, LAC
pending 8 CEUS CA #1650 / NCCAOM #9191
live webinar saturday 1/15/22
In this course we explore the complexities of emotion from a multi-pronged approach through a Chinese medicine theory perspective, a spiritual perspective and a bio-physiological perspective. Participants will learn the basics of healing from a truly integrative stance - including the body-mind-spirit axis, the basics of the process of disease or illness and tools to help them recognize this and become better healers. We’ll dive deep into the 5 main emotions and their connections with the 5 elements, how emotions are created, felt and processed through the lens of Chinese medicine. And finally not forgetting to look at the emotions and the bio-physiological role they play in the body. We call emotions ‘feelings’ because that’s exactly what they are - literal feelings in the body produced by neurotransmitters, hormones and enzymes. By learning to recognize these feelings in the body we can have more awareness and insight into ourselves and our patients.
